Development Manager – Housing Association – Up to £55,000 per annum + bonus – Hertfordshire

Our client are an industry leading Housing Association who are looking to expand their talented development team out of their office based in Hertfordshire. The purpose of the role is to ensure the effective management of a portfolio of development projects from planning to completion, maximising the use of resources, maintaining stringent cost control, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and internal requirements.

The responsibilities will include;

  • Manage colleagues dealing with developments:
  • Providing ownership of projects ,an understanding of the relevant local conditions and deliver a product suitable for the business.
  • Reporting to a senior development manager and head of development
  • Consult with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure that schemes meet with both their housing and planning requirements.
  • Appoint consultants (e.g. architects, cost consultants, employers agents, planning consultants, and solicitors) and act as sole client during the development period including the monitoring the activities of consultants and contractors.
  • Take the lead and ownership of a variety of development projects, responsibility for financial management and delivery within budgets.
  • Manage compliance risks to the business .
  • Be administratively efficient and ensure that accurate records are kept in relation to scheme progress and finance
  • Monitor scheme completion dates and update, Housing Management, Development Finance and other relevant parties
  • Represent the Association at handover of completed units and supply relevant information to appropriate clients

The successful candidate will have;

  • Knowledge of housing association development standards and processes
  • Knowledge of planning law
  • Knowledge  of building or similar contracts
  • Knowledge of technical and financial feasibility studies
  • Experience of managing multiple development or similar projects
  • Minimum A-level standard or equivalent
  • Analyses own performance and offers ideas and gives feedback
  • Organises processes around customer taking account of complex and sensitive issues to meet their long term needs
  • Create an environment where teams are empowered to put customers first.
  • Initiates meetings with colleagues and external partners to share information
  • Networks effectively both internally and externally
  • Is a clear and persuasive communicator
  • Takes responsibility for making decisions to move things forward
  • Plans ahead and is able to spot opportunities to develop new approaches, products and services to meet organisational needs
