CV Checklist

09/08/2017

Your CV is normally the only route to obtaining a job interview, unless you’ve been recommended by someone with great influence. So, spending the time to review is vitally important.

Ensure you have included all the necessary information - an obvious statement but mistakes can easily happen.  If you’ve recently updated your CV for a vacancy, have a break for a couple of hours before reviewing, your mind will be much fresher.

You’ll find an abundance of help within our CV section of career tools, but here’s a quick summary of things to check and double check!

Here’s a checklist:

  • Personal profile included at the beginning
  • Work history dates match and don’t overlap
  • Gaps are honestly explained
  • Spelling and grammar checked
  • Contact details current and correct

If you’re creating a targeted CV for a specific role, check:

  • Evidence of similar duties on your CV
  • You have used similar terminology to the job role
  • Proof of comparable experience is clear
  • Ability match the skills required

Practical aspects

  • It is no more than two pages
  • It is easy to navigate
  • Simple font, such as calibri or aerial
  • No colour
